Our people

The team shares a common belief that every project carries a unique set of problems and challenges and our team is encouraged to endeavour to explore, to discover, to continually create and to solve in an inventive fashion. Differing philosophies, talents and interests are nurtured and supported to promote novel ways of assessing challenges and honing skills. The team is the driving force to meet these challenges with solutions that are imaginative yet practical and always original and they are continuously urged to realise that design is only effective when there is contextual planning with identification and assessment of urban issues, including awareness of community. The aspirations of both client and community are viewed as fundamental in planning and design. Thus the LLA team has developed enviable skills of manoeuvring and urging continuous consultation with community and client so as to attain the worthiest outcome with the least angst.

“It’s very hard for us to get another architectural consultancy where LLA are – in terms of design standards, ways of working, people” “The work, the proposals, ideas, the rendering – in my opinion it’s outstanding work.” E Leen’s Corporate Client 2022

E Leen chose a path less trodden by young Malaysian architects. After completing her B.Arch(Hons) at UTM, she headed to Italy. Despite language barriers, she successfully completed an M.Sc in Building Engineering at Politecnico Di Milano. E Leen was actively involved in post-tragedy housing schemes, designing sustainable housing projects under the flagship of Architetto Arturo Montanelli in Milan. Even then her focus was resolute on sustainable design and environmental management.

Since 2010, E Leen’s exponential growth has been focused on both conservation and contemporary works. She believes value added design is not necessarily complex in nature. However, every project that E Leen undertakes whether simple or convoluted and complicated, she relentlessly pursues design excellence and notions that are responsive not only to climatic and contextual needs but also to the balance of community, culture, and place in the built environment.

To say she has grown extremely proficient is an understatement. International conglomerates like IKEA (IKANO) and BOSCH have grown to rely on her outstanding ability to break down their needs and to gauge their complex requisites.

“ Service to the client – I mean emotionally: how we actually sit down with the clients to go through the whole project, really let them understand and somehow create awareness; in a way we hold hands with them throughout the project so that they don’t feel any disconnection  … we continuously plan for how we can learn and grow alongside our clients, advocating ‘empathy’ … we do go the extra mile..”  E Leen 2023

“…after the pre-design is done … speak about the scope of work, they understand, they come with first sketches – in a 1 hour meeting we are able to give new inputs, discuss things – they understand completely.” Safuan’s Client 2022

Safuan Azman, an architect with a BSc. Arch (Hons) from IIUM and a PG. Dip. Arch from the Oxford Brookes School of Architecture is big on historic preservation.  His achievements and specialty lie in the fields of conservation and adaptive reuse, as well as the design of public spaces. He is passionate in bridging the lessons learnt from built and natural history incorporating present and future spatial needs. Safuan firmly believes that by understanding the significance of our architectural and cultural heritage, it can greatly help in shaping leadership and innovation in contemporary architecture.

His interest in mastering artistic mediums serves as an integral part of his creative process to effectively harness and convey ideas. As part of the team, Safuan strives to pursue, intervene, and build upon the firm’s legacy, focusing on design excellence that encompasses humanity, the environment, and cultural preservation.

Some of the notable projects that have showcased his ability to blend historical context with innovative design solutions are the UAB building (PAM Building of the Year 2019) and the Penang Hill Funicular Stations. A credible artist, Safuan draws and paints in his leisure hours.
