Jesselton, Penang
Scope:
Architecture
Status:

Rooted in the concept of the Chi point, this residence emerged as a finalist in the 2004 PAM Awards for Residential Housing. A strategic embodiment of this principle, the kitchen occupies a central role within the home, positioned at the heart of the structure. This strategic placement enables the mother of five to maintain a watchful eye over the adjoining rooms on the same floor. The spiral staircase exudes purposeful noise, allowing the mother to be aware of the activities transpiring on the first floor. Beyond this, the prime positioning grants clear visibility of the outdoors, a biophilic haven that echoes the home’s commitment to a nature-infused ambiance. With designs that keep her attuned to the household activities, the mother would have a sense of control and comfort in her own abode.
