The idea of interpretation is an integral and inseparable facet of Architectural Conservation which leads to recovery and transmission of the Spirit of Place or Genius Loci, revealed through intangible & tangible attributes & values which may have otherwise not been unearthed & given their rightful place in the story of a heritage site.

The creation of the sitting platform as a response to cultural references, especially local, appeals to a visibly younger crowd. The Mansion is perceived clearly as a Chinese Mansion. It is worth noting that the platform concept has started to break down racial barriers. The design intention was to make the space inclusive & blind to racial & cultural differences. In fact, sitting on the ground stimulates a sense of equality.

The juxtaposition of old salvaged materials & artifacts & new designs evokes memories & create threads to other stories that trigger conversations. This fortifies the tagline on the logo “Where conversations begin”.
